Overview

The River Rouge Restoration is an ongoing collaborative effort between several Southeast Michigan organizations. Partnering with the City of Detroit, Sidewalk Detroit, and the University of Michigan, Starflower created a comprehensive suitability analysis for several passive and active bioengineering techniques throughout the Rouge River Watershed. This project will reduce ongoing erosion and channel instability within the stream reach by identifying key areas to incorporate natural channel design (NCD) techniques. This project also studied and identified areas of biological interventions, including habitat areas suitable to sustain Beaver colonies. This project was funded by the University of Michigan and used in the application for the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant.
